More than 15 plain clothes police operatives arrested two female suspected
terrorists yesterday.
The incident occurred around 10.30am at the Gwarimpa Estate, CITEC
end of the pedestrian bridge at the CITEC Junction Bus Stop, when the
operatives stormed the spot where the two girls aged between 16 and 18,
were standing as if waiting for somebody, and arrested them.
The two girls wearing hijab, but not covering their faces, were waiting under
the pedestrian bridge when they were both arrested.
The girls were initially told to get into the waiting van by the plainclothes
operatives but sensing resistance, more operatives, all plainclothes, rushed
to the scene and started forcing the girls to move but the girls refused to get
into the vehicles and started screaming for help.
Some traders at the scene who were not sure who the plainclothes men were tried
to intervene but the operatives warned the onlookers not to intervene and started
bringing out their guns.
Four of them brought out their pistols while some others brandished their AK-47
automatic rifles. They, however, did not fire any shots until and successfully bundled
both girls into the Highlander and drove off, heading towards FCT metropolis.
An eyewitness said when he saw both girls standing under the bridge for a long period
of time, he had a feeling that they could be terrorists hence was not surprised when the
operatives came and picked them up.
When the FCT command spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, was contacted by reporters, he said he didn't know of the arrest.
