The Bayelsa State Government has given a two-month ultimatum to landlords in Yenagoa, the state capital, to provide toilet facilities in their homes.
The government spoke against the backdrop that some homes in Yenagoa don’t have toilets as their tenants were made to defecate in the bush or in the open.
The Chairman, Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Chief Robert Enogha, handed down the notice on Saturday when he appeared on the Correspondents’ Platform of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, in Yenagoa.
Enogha, who warned that sanction awaited errant landlords, said the provision of good toilet facilities would ensure good hygiene, sanitary system and good health.
Enogha also said the government had put machinery in motion to turn waste to wealth by building recycling bins in the state to give the environment a clean bill and discourage indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
He said the Authority had received four major presentations from interested members of the public to establish recycling plants in the state.
